80″ Flail Mower Overview

The 80″ flail mower is the finish-and-safety head. Where a rotary throws debris, the flail’s cutting action keeps discharge contained and low — making it the deliberate choice for mowing near traffic lanes, guardrails, sidewalks, and adjacent property, where thrown material is a real liability. It also leaves a finer, more uniform cut, so it’s the right tool wherever finished appearance matters as much as clearing. At 80″ it’s the widest head Hydratach offers, pairing safe discharge with full-width coverage.

Features

Direct-Drive Piston Motor

A direct-drive piston motor powers the rotor with no belts or tensioners to slip or maintain. It delivers higher torque and faster recovery time than belt-driven flails, with far less upkeep.

Large Bearings

A 6″ diameter flail rotor tube rides on large bearings for maximum strength, standing up to continuous heavy cutting.

Replacement Knives

Knives available in Y-shaped side cutters, scoop-style steel knives, or forged hammers.

Adjustable Cutting Height

Both the front skid and rear roller adjust incrementally for precise cut-height control across varying conditions.

Adjustable Discharge Opening

An incremental position latch opens or closes the discharge opening, so material can be freely discharged or contained for better mulching.

Universal Skid Steer Mount on Boom

Connects or changes from the boom in minutes using the standard skid steer coupler and flat-face hydraulic couplers. The coupler’s three-axis rotator lets the operator work the head from the cab: side-to-side deck curl, front-to-back coupler curl, and horizontal coupler swing. Any Hydratach skid steer attachment can run as a boom head, and these heads also run on existing high-flow skid steers for better asset utilization.
